Welcome to Special Woodworking Co.
The Process of Making Your Custom Piece:

We all have our own style and taste. We like to wear certain clothing, drive a certain vehicle, have a particular theme for our home, and we even have a type of personality that we present to the outside world. We like things that make us comfortable; things that make us happy; things we call our own. We understand that.

Have you ever envisioned a particular front door, dining room set or bed frame (for instance) in your head; searched for it in countless stores and just couldn't find what you were looking for? You couldn't find the one piece that just hit you; the one piece that stands out?

That is what we are here to do. We want to make your imagination a reality, and this is where it starts:

Custom Mesquite Furniture

You call or email with your idea. You and Christian will talk directly, through whichever method you prefer (even in person), until you are satisfied that your idea is understood. Once a price is set and agreed upon, a 50% down payment will be required. Before the down payment, you will get an estimated completion date (this depends, of course, on the number of projects ahead of you at the time, as we operate on a first come-first serve basis). We build a plan based on your specifications (average time is determined by the size and complexity of a particular piece). We always have mesquite lumber in stock and ready for building. Below is an example of the process from scratch:
Next, we harvest the tree. The trees we harvest come from calls we get from people who have trees that have been hit by lightning, or are otherwise going to be destroyed.

The tree is then cut in our sawmill to prepare for the vacuum wood kiln. The wood kiln kills the tree bugs (so they don't continue to eat through the wood after it has been made into furniture), and dries the wood to a 10% moisture content, which is perfect for making furniture. This process takes anywhere from 1 week to 3 months depending on the thickness and density of the wood. As you may, or may not know, Mesquite is also called "Texas Ironwood" because of its dense properties.
After the wood is out of the kiln, then the painstaking process of cutting to exact specifications, sanding, drilling, and all of the labor takes part in creating each and every piece.

As you can see, this doesn't happen overnight. Conversely, one piece of mesquite furniture will not take an entire tree, so don't worry, we will almost always already have wood dried and ready to create your vision.

We look forward to working with you and creating yet another satisfied customer for years to come. Choose us when you need the skilled craftsman and custom home builders to get the job done right.
